Waterworks aspires to enhance the creative capacity of individuals and communities through extraordinary visual arts experiences that foster creativity and life-long learning. We strive to be a leader and innovator in museum education. Our wide range of educational programs engage and inspire visitors to look more closely and better understand art through offering a variety of learning experiences centered on works of art and enhancing educational opportunities for a wide range of audiences. These programs teach the fundamentals of art and design and allows students of all ages and socio-economic levels to experience a variety of media which builds skills, confidence in art making, and exposure to art appreciation and art history.
Each year, Waterworks provides:
Studio, clay, and darkroom classes for youth and adults
A variety of week-long summer ARTventures classes for children ages 4-18
A summer middle school Art Residency, taught by a professional artist, comprised of a week of day-long intense instruction for up to 30 students who are nominated by their schools to participate free of charge
5th grade ARTstop Program - a program which allows all 5th grade students in the Rowan-Salisbury School System to visit the museum. This program consists of a docent-led gallery tour and a hands-on art activity inspired by one of our exhibiting artists
Gallery talks, demonstrations, and workshops by professional artists
Waterworks serves as an extended classroom for local and area colleges and universities in welcoming these students to our museum and providing them a place to study and learn as part of their arts curriculum.Dare to Imagine Award - an art award/scholarship for one Rowan County high school senior whose work is chosen by a blind panel and whose work most exemplifies the creative potential of the human spirit, heart and hand. The winner receives a cash prize, custom framing of their work, and a three-month solo exhibition at Waterworks.

CLASS REGISTRATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION
Class Sizes are Limited - Register Early!
For your convenience, the Registration and Emergency Contact Form is available to download from our website. You may register online, with payment via PayPal; in person or by phone during regular business hours, with cash, check , and credit card.
Select classes in the appropriate age group for your child. Please note that children participating in each age group, must reach the appropriate age for that class by the first day. (NO exceptions)
Annual WVAC Membership must be valid at time of registration to receive the member rates and discounts.
Members registering for three or more classes (at the same time) will receive $5 off the class tuition fee of the third and subsequent classes per student.
If class tuition fees are not paid-in-full upon registration, a NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE deposit of $25 per class, per student is required. This fee will hold the students spot in the class and the fee will be applied toward the full class tuition.
ALL TUITION FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL AT TIME OF REGISTRATION.
To ensure a quality experience for all involved, WVAC reserves the right to refuse/remove a student due to behavioral problems. If a situation arises and a student is asked to leave, class fees will be forfeited with no refund/voucher.
A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. For additional information and an application please contact WVAC Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, 704.636.1882. Please note: Scholarships are limited to one per family/household, per calendar year.
Students may be put on a waiting list for a majority of the classes. If an opening becomes available, students on the waiting list will be contacted by phone and/or email with the spaces being filled on a first come/first serve basis. ALL TUITION PAYMENT GUIDELINES WILL APPLY.
WVAC reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment and will refund 100% of your class fee including the $25 registration fee. Notification of class cancellations will be made by email at least 7 calendar days prior to the first day of class.
Any request for withdrawal or cancellation must be made in person or over the phone ten (10) tens before the start of the class(es) to be eligible for a WVAC voucher. Email and voicemail withdrawal or cancellation WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED and any voucher due will be forfeited.
No monetary refunds will be given for withdrawal or cancellation. WVAC Vouchers will be issued for future use. Member discounts and registration fees will be forfeited.
