ATTENTION! High School / College ART Students BUILD YOUR PORTFOLIO with professional artist Carmella Jarvi Saturday, June 19, 2010, 11am-2pm
This three-hour portfolio workshop with Carmella Jarvi is for rising 10th grade students and up who are serious about their art. Participants will get specific feedback on how to create a strong, original portfolio to apply for AP Studio Art, Scholastics or art programs and scholarships. Participants are asked to bring three favorite examples of their art and a sketchbook/paper for notes. Ms. Jarvi was a HS art teacher for ten years. Among other things, she started the AP Art program and had numerous gold key winners at Scholastics Art Awards. She has been an Artist-in- Residence, has an instructional DVD, "Painting Water with Pastels," and loves sharing with other artists, young and old!

July 6-9 Afternoon Class 2-4:15 (Tuesday-Friday) Singing Wind Catchers Students will learn to use basic tools while creating their own Wind Catcher. They will work with the drill, rasp, pliers, and pipe cutters. Safety is stressed, and safety goggles are provided. Learn to dye wool fibers with cake icing gels, and then use these fibers to make wool beads to create a charm bracelet! During this class, students will learn a variety of simple printmaking techniques. Did you know you could print with food? We’ll use fruits, veggies, and gelatin, as well as more traditional methods such as monoprinting with plexiglass, using a printmaking press, and Styrofoam printmaking. Claymation! / Grades 3-5 (Full, Waitlist only) If you want to make your own movie, then come to the Claymation Studio! Create a clay character, make a story board, and animate your creation using stop-motion animation. Students will use digital video equipment, choose sound effects, and create an animated short film. The movies will be edited and each student will receive a DVD. Class limited to 6 students. Instructor: Jackie Black
Drawing for Real! / Grades 6-8
Learn composition, perspective, and shadows and light—the elements necessary to make your drawing look like the real thing. Practice drawing from 3-D objects using easels, pencil, and charcoal, as you train your "artist eye" to produce great drawings. Instructor: Ray Moose

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Members registering for three or more classes per family at the same time will receive a 10% discount. Discounts will not be retroactive. Class fees are due at registration. You may register in person (preferable) or by phone with VISA or MasterCard during regular business hours. Registration is not complete until payment is received. We appreciate your patience when registering by phone. Annual Membership must be valid at time of registration to receive member rate and multiple-class discount. No refunds will be given for cancellations fewer than three weeks (15 calendar days) before the start date of any class. In an effort to prevent overbooking, please register your children for classes you are sure they will be able to attend. No refunds for withdrawals will be given after class sessions have begun. WVAC reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment and will refund 100% of your class fee.
To ensure a quality experience for all involved, WVAC reserves the right to refuse/remove a student due to behavioral problems. If a student is asked to leave, class fees will be forfeited with no refund. Scholarships are available.
