Women Viewing Art with Champagne
Christine Peeler Whitton's name is synonymous with community service, leadership, and sustained financial philanthropy.  Waterworks Visual Arts Center was profoundly fortunate to have had this dynamic woman as a principal benefactor.
Because of her spirit of sharing, her appreciation of the arts, and selfless service to Salisbury-Rowan, WVAC finds it appropriate to name its volunteer program in loving memory of this exceptional woman.
The Christine P. Whitton Art Partners, is a program in which WVAC staff and trained docents serve as mentors and offer leadership training to young and adult volunteers.
On October 22, 2009 Waterworks hosted a gala event, Women Viewing Art with Champagne, to celebrate and pay tribute to our beloved friend Chris Whitton. Proceeds from this event provided funds for the Art Partners program.
We hope you will be inspired to join this group which LEADS BY EXAMPLE!

VOLUNTEERISM: Meaningful engagement

Art museums as non-profits greatly depend upon the talents, experiences, and hearts of their volunteers to help achieve the level of reach and impact they could not realize through paid staff members alone.  Our adult and youth volunteer program saw an increase in it numbers from 69 to 150 volunteers.  these professionals, interns, community leaders, museum members, and students contributed over 2,700 hours at the Center. This level of "hands-on" contributions defines our museum and larger Salisbury-Rowan community as "extraordinary."

View the many pages of our website to gain insight to the broad range of programs and services provided by the Waterworks to find an area that inspires you.  You can volunteer to help build your resume or build your spirit. We would like you to be a part of our caring--and high impact--team.

Volunteer opportunities at the Waterworks exist in a wide range of areas and time commitments.  From serving as a welcoming greeter for exhibition openings, to planning or conducting fundraisers and family day events, to becoming a docent or classes and workshops assistant, there is an important role for you, or someone you know, to play.  If you are a newcomer to the Salisbury-Rowan area volunteering can help you meet friends and professional contacts in meaningful ways.  Our volunteers include working professionals, semi- and fully- retired citizens, and students from middle school through graduate school levels.

Contact Cathy Sigmon, Education Coordinator, at 704-636-1882 or email education@waterworks.org for more detailed information.  Scroll down for a listing of sample volunteer opportunities.
